White Orpington
White Orpingtons originated in the 1860's in the village of Orpington in Kent, England, as a dual purpose utility breed for both meat & eggs. White Orpington eggs are an off white - light pink colour, hens are average layers laying upwards of 230 eggs per year in their early years, while the cockerels make large white skinned table birds, so they are an excellent choice for many lifestyles and also make gorgeous pets. |
We are working on getting this breed to the correct standard but it is tricky when there are limited numbers of them. This big soft fluffy docile & gentle breed are highly sought after so it pays to order ahead. Popularity is always on the rise with this beautiful breed, as they continue to make their mark as both great pets and egg layers alike for those whom delight in owning them. While white orpingtons have shown reduced popularity for the last few years (blues being the colour of choice most recently) they are showing a resurgence and we have had quite a few enquiries about them already this season. They are absolutely beautiful, luminously white, stately ladies. Simply gorgeous. |
