Muscovy Ducks

Muscovy Originally native to Mexico, this large tropical bird adapts well to colder climates and thrives here in New Zealand and other countries such as Fiji.. Not really classed as a duck at all, they are just simply 'Muscovy' and are more closely related to a Goose than a Duck - and as such are not noisy like other ducks, as they do not Quack at all, making only gentle hissing sounds. . These big friendly birds live in family groups and communicate with wagging tails, gently hissing at each other with beak mimicking head movements! |

These large birds make great pets, and come in a range of lovely colors - from plain white, to black & white, to a lovely blue / grey color & white as shown on the left.
They have proven them selves to be excellent layers and very good breeders and mothers, both hatching and rearing their own ducklings well into adulthood!
They can and do occasionally fly short distances, usually choosing not to venture too far from their feed source!
The Incubation period for hatching Muscovy eggs is 35 days long, being one of the longest incubation periods of any domestic water fowl, even longer than geese, which is only 30 days duration.
We sometimes have eggs available to hatch your own ducklings, but these are often very limited, depending on where and when we find their nests. Ducklings are available when we have them - their appearance is often quite a surprise.
